One More Step on the Road to Pensions Justice

5.04.58pm GMT Wed 21st Mar 2007

Commenting on Gordon Brown's announcement in the budget of extra money into the Financial Assistance Scheme, Jenny Willott MP said :

"It seems the Government is finally starting to get the message. They appear to be moving in the right direction towards giving pensions justice to former ASW workers and over 100,000 others.

"Until further details are released of how this money will be spent, it is hard to assess the impact.

"It's frustrating that it requires two judges, the Parliamentary Ombudsman and a Select Committee to get the Government to start to be reasonable. However, it seems we're still a way off. I wish the Government would swallow their pride and properly compensate all those affected.

"We will continue to fight for proper pensions justice. The next target will be to rally MPs to support the amendment I and my colleagues have tabled to the Pensions Bill. This would mean that all the victims of this affair would get 90% of their pension savings, the same level of protection that all of today's pensioners have."
