Struggling Welsh families need tax and interest rate cuts for the winter ahead - Willott

12.00.00am GMT Wed 5th Nov 2008

Commenting on new figures showing that growth in take home pay has fallen for the third consecutive month and that factory output has fallen for the seventh consecutive month, Jenny Willott, Liberal Democrat Shadow Work and Pensions Spokesperson and MP for Cardiff Central, said:

"Thousands of working families across Wales are being financially squeezed to the limit as the price of goods rises far faster than their pay.

"As the financial crisis hits the real economy, people are being forced to tighten their belts. But this is having a serious impact on manufacturing and retail industries in Wales.

"The Government must act to help the hundreds of thousands in Wales who are worried about how to make ends meet through the winter.

"Low and middle income earners need tax cuts now. A deep cut in interest rates would also help to lower the cost of borrowing and we must ensure that people are not needlessly thrown out of their homes."
