GOVERNMENT RENEWABLE SCHEME CLOSURE "OUTRAGEOUS"

12.00.00am GMT Wed 25th Mar 2009

Commenting on the news that the Government has closed the Low Carbon Building Programme for all new public or third sector applications for Solar Photovoltaics (PVs) because it has run out of money, Jenny Willott, Welsh Liberal Democrat MP for Cardiff Central, said:

"This is an outrageous move. The Government couldn't undermine renewable energy more if it tried.

"This is a second time the Government has closed this vital renewable energy grant scheme for the budding young green industry because it is too popular.

"When will the Government realise that popular demand for green technologies is a good thing?

"Rather than micro-managing the growth of the green sector, the Government should learn from President Obama and invest whole-heartedly in green technologies and green jobs as a key pillar of a national economic rescue plan."
