CARDIFF'S GRAFFITI BUSTING TEAMS NEEDED ACROSS WALES - WILLOTT

12.00.00am GMT Thu 26th Mar 2009

Commenting on figures released today by Keep Wales Tidy, showing that 12% of Welsh streets suffer from graffiti, Jenny Willott, Welsh Liberal Democrat MP for Cardiff Central, said:

"These are shockingly high figures and show just how endemic graffiti has become across parts of Wales.

"Graffiti can have a hugely damaging visual impact on an area and a psychological affect on its residents. It drags down a whole area.

"Cardiff Council has recently set up a dedicated graffiti busting team that cleans off graffiti for free. Though it's early days, it is already having a real impact.

"I hope that other councils across Wales follow Cardiff's lead and set up similar teams to tackle this growing problem."
