CARDIFF'S 140 JOB LOSSES DOWN TO LLOYDS' HBOS TAKEOVER - WILLOTT & RANDERSON

12.00.00am GMT Tue 10th Nov 2009

Commenting on the news that Lloyd's Banking Group's restructuring will result in the closure of the site at Trinity Court in Cardiff and affect some 140 jobs, Jenny Willott, Welsh Liberal Democrat MP for Cardiff Central, said:

"This is a disaster for all those affected and a direct result of Lloyds' takeover of HBOS.

"The takeover was a political decision designed to avert total nationalisation of the bank and people in Cardiff are now paying for it with their jobs.

"People will be even more aghast given that the Government has agreed to hand over an extra £5.7bn in taxpayer's money to further bail out Lloyds."

Commenting, Jenny Randerson, Welsh Liberal Democrat Shadow Minister for The Economy, Transport & Education and AM for Cardiff Central, said:

"These job losses are a result of merging the operations of Lloyd's and HBOS.

"This is another example of the public bearing the brunt of the mistakes made by the government and the banks.

"Lloyd's need to make sure the very best support is available to either relocate Cardiff employees to another part of Lloyds, or move them into other Cardiff jobs as soon as possible."
